Shaker Firewood Box
A near direct copy of the Shaker firewood box you’ll find in “Making Authentic Shaker Furniture” by John G Shea.
The design is incredibly simple which is one of the joys of Shaker pieces. The joinery is on show. In my view this isn’t as a celebration of exposed joinery. Rather it’s a direct way of working that focuses on strength and durability.
The curved tops with a stop chamfer detail add a softness to the design which is very welcome. The thing I like most about this piece is that it works hard and bears the scars proudly. Each dent from a piece of firewood just adds to it’s story.
Polar with water based poly finish.
